Well Mummy, we have just had 3 really really big storms in a week. The first one was the deepest depression thay have seen in 30 years (people died in that one - all in the north island. It was vicious and fast moving, and Nelson wasn't hit too badly. The next one was as big as the Tasman sea, not quite so low, but very slow moving, and caused flooding and wind damage in the North Island, and absolutely decimated Nelson before it headed south and caused flooding all over Canterbury - SH1 is still closed and so is the railway line near Kaikoura.
Anyway, on wednesday it was pretty windy in Nelson, and Elaine got stuck in Christchurch because the planes couldn't fly into Nelson. Sharon got home from work and decided to take us for a quick walk, but when we got to the park, the wind was worse and the trees were making cracking noises, so we went home and battened down the hatches. And just as well we did. We were safe as anything in the wee house, but there was devastation all around us! I couldn't believe it the next day! The big park up the road lost over 100 beautiful old trees. Just a couple of hundred meters up the road 2 houses got smashed by trees, and the railway reserve that we love to walk in just up the road lost lots of trees. The water supply to Nelson got smashed and won't be fixed until tomorrow, so we are having to be careful with water.
Here are some pictures from the Railway reserve which is about 200m from our house.
I hope are enjoying summer, while we survive this terrible winter!
love your Bollie. XXXX
Gee that looks appalling....I had heard from other friends that the weather was terrible, but that is awful. so many trees.
ReplyDeleteBollie, you could help by dragging some of the logs....you know how you like carrying sticks!
I hear your friend Louis went possum-hunting....don't you get any ideas now!
Keep up that swimming - you will have such a mighty chest soon!
Love, Your Mum
ohhh mummy I have been doing my best, but some of them are SOOOOO big - but there are lots of little sticks that I carry - it drives that Louis mad - cos I'm so quick, and he just can't get them off me!
ReplyDeleteElaine says that I am all muscle - in fact she is giving me extra food 'cos she could feel my ribs, and was worried that I am getting a bit thin!

Hi Mighty Muscle Girl!
ReplyDeleteMore food ey? I reckon it was those big brown eyes of yours, not the sticky-outy-ribs. I meant to say that I have seen the video of you and Louis fighting with that sharon and you trying to take a hu-u-uge bite out of her sleeve. Gently gently mighty girl.
Jack and I go for walks every day I am here - usually three a day. His dog Gemma says she wishes you were here to join us. Gemma's a big blonde Lab - no doubt you would boss her around like you do Louis
TRY to be good, and please ask Elaine if I need to send more money into her account to pay for the ENORMOUS amount of food you are now eating.
Love Penny
